Somewhere in Outer Banks (North Carolina, USA)

Hi All,

This is the first edition of ‘Trailblazing.’ Please share any feedback you may have, or let me know if any of the below topics piques your interest.

What I recently found interesting:

  • Nepal’s reforestation initiative proves the efficacy of community-led approach to combat global warming

    • Simply put, trees are important because they are a natural way for the world to combat global warming

    • Nepal has successfully executed a decentralized policy to fight climate change which could set an example for other countries

    • Taking a bigger picture view, I believe that for humanity to reverse the global warming trend individual people need to be enabled to make the Earth-friendly decisions on a daily basis

  • UEFA’s Football Landscape Report

    • The most interesting part of this report highlights a growing trend of multi-club investment strategy, predominantly led by American-based investment groups (p. 210-11)

    • Diversification, cost synergies, more effective talent development & more favorable transfer market are among the few benefits of this strategy

    • A big question revolves around the integrity of the game → what happens when two teams owned by the same entity face each other in a competition? There are currently rules that prevent that but UEFA is actively searching for ways to relax them and we should expect the regulations to become more lenient soon

    • Lastly, there is a difference between European & American sports management cultures with the former being more heavily influenced by fans and the latter traditionally being more commercially-focused → can the two successfully co-exist?

  • Quickchat’s AI explanation of Chat GPT 3 / 4 evolution

    • A great layperson-friendly explanation of what is under the hood of Chat GPT and what we can expect from upcoming multimodal learning algorithms

    • In terms of the progress between GPT-3 & 4 the former was essentially about understanding the written language, while the latter may start to learn from images, videos and / or other ways the information is being passed on in the real world, bringing us another few steps closer to human-level intelligence → now, how close can we get?

  • Investment Thesis for AI Travel Assistant by a16z

    • Ever since graduating college I have been hoping to have a personal AI assistant to help me with a variety of daily real-world activities

    • This travel use case is only one of the many applications of GPT and I am curious to dig deeper into them

Miscellaneous

  • Travel

    • I just did my first “up the East Coast RoadTrip” from Miami to NYC → it took me 6 days which allowed me to reflect & refuel, but also see Outer Banks from the Netflix Show & the famous ‘Rocky Steps’ 😄

  • Song Recommendation

    • “Symptom of being human” by Shinedown -> a great reminder that we are never alone in our lives, as both ups and downs are just a part of the greater life’s journey
